Karen was delighted to visit Woodhouse Academy in Biddulph on Friday morning. She said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the pupils from the school council and talking to them about my two roles – as the local MP and as the Minister for Modern Slavery.”
The pupils asked some very insightful questions on a host of topics from Karen’s day-to-day duties as an MP to how voting works in the House of Commons.
After spending time with the Council, Karen sat in on a Year 8 History class where pupils were learning about the History of slavery. She said:
“I was really pleased to be able to spend a few minutes explaining my role as Minister for Modern Slavery and to talk about the ongoing problem of slavery in the UK today – it must seem far off to people in the Moorlands but it’s happening in our country now.”
Karen was especially pleased to hear that the pupils are planning mini campaigns to raise awareness of modern slavery. She is looking forward to hearing how they go in the coming weeks.
Karen would like to thank the staff and pupils of Woodhouse Academy for being such brilliant hosts.
