I was pleased to visit Leek Community Fire Station recently, where I met Deputy Chief Fire Officer Glynn Luznyj, along with Blue Watch Lead WM Krissi Walchester and the rest of the Watch.
The station is day crewed, meaning that it is crewed by fire fighters during the day, but moves to being on-call at night.
Krissi and the team gave me a tour of the fire station and facilities, including a run-through of the extensive kit on the main fire engine, and how it is used for the various call outs.
I was able to have a chat with the crew, and they told me all about a typical day at the fire station, the type of call-outs they attend, which include weather related incidents, road traffic accidents, property fires and chimney fires. They also explained about their work in the community on fire safety awareness and fire prevention in the home.
