Karen went to Leek and Bidduluph Libraries to meet the staff and talk to users on National Libraries Day.
She said:
"We are very lucky in Staffordshire because, unlike some other parts of the country, no libraries have closed in our county and the County Council has invested to keep our libraries developing and providing new services."
"It was great to meet Matt and Cath at Biddulph Library and Elizabeth (pictured) in Leek. And if was particularly interesting to hear from them how our use of libraries is changing. We talked about how fewer people are borrowing paper books these days, with more choosing ebooks, audiobooks and DVDs and CDs. And how many people don't borrow anything but rely on the library to access the internet. Our libraries are also great meeting places – with mother and toddler sessions and the popular Knit and Natter groups bringing people together.
"Of course one of the most important factors is the work that our libraries do with local schools. They are invaluable for developing an interest in books and gettting kids into reading – something that will stand the kids in good stead for life."
The County Council is keen to find out from existing and potential users what they want from their local library. You can give your views in writing – forms are available in the libraries – or online at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/connectedlibraries. Why not have your say?
