Karen is encouraging her constituents to take advantage of the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF). The Fund will allow people to claim government cash to make their homes energy efficient, reducing their utility bills.
She said:
"I know that energy prices are a big concern for many people in the Moorlands, so I am really pleased that the GDHIF has been created to help pay for improvements such as double glazing, new boilers or cavity wall insulation.
"If you choose to make two of these improvements, you can claim as much as £1,000, and if you install solid wall insulation, it's possible to get up to £6,000! There's also an extra £500 for people who have bought a new property within the last year - some households may even get £7,600 in total.
"These are not small sums and making your home energy efficient will help to bring down the cost of your heating bills, but anyone who is interested needs to move quickly because the special rates will not last long and summer is the best time to make improvements."
