Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley intervened earlier today in the Second Reading of the Direct Payment to Farmers Legislative Bill in the House of Commons.
Following an intervention from another MP, Karen commented,
“My farmers in Staffordshire Moorlands contribute so much to the local economy and they often say to me what they really want is a fair price for what they produce but they need the support to be able to do that.”
She continued asking the MP if she agreed that farmers in Staffordshire Moorlands and the challenges they face, will be different from the farmers, perhaps in her own constituency, and the challenges they face?
Karen said that a scheme for rural payments is needed that recognises the differences across the country.
