Local MP Karen Bradley visited All Saints’ CE(A) First School in Leek last Friday, to discuss the 'Connecting Classrooms' project with the Headteacher, Liz Allbutt.
The scheme creates partnerships between schools across the UK and schools in developing countries, aiming to help young people here and overseas to develop the knowledge, skills and values to live and, in the longer term, work in a globalised economy.
Karen said:
"I was interested to hear how some of the teachers from All Saints’ have been out to Kimillili, in Kenya, visiting their partnership school, Nyange Primary School. Teachers from Nyange have also visited All Saints’ here in Leek. The two schools have a partnership project in which children from both schools write stories based on the culture and traditional tales of their own country and these are sent to the partner school for the children to share and enjoy.
"I would like to congratulate All Saints’ on their commitment to championing this cultural exchange with pupils in Kenya. I know that some people do not agree with International Aid but projects such as this, in my opinion, are a fantastic way to develop pupils’ understanding of global issues."
