Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley has welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement earlier today that the Leek – Stoke line will be reopened.
Karen chaired the delivery board for this project, which was also supported by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, as well as by the three Stoke-on-Trent MPs.
As part of the Restoring Your Railway Fund £50,000 was awarded to commission a study to explore the potential options for reinstating services on the mothballed Stoke to Leek Line, and to then produce a Strategic Outline Business Case (SOBC). After working with a wide range of stakeholders and rail industry experts, the Strategic Outline Business Case was submitted to the Department for Transport before Christmas last year.
Karen commented,
“I am absolutely delighted that the Prime Minister has given the go ahead to the reopening of the Leek to Stoke line. This is great news for the whole Moorlands. I was honoured to chair the board that put the bid in and am thrilled that we have been successful.
"I would also like to thank Sybil Ralphs MBE, former Leader of the District Council who has worked with me for many years on this project and who I know will be equally thrilled with today's announcement."
