Karen Bradley is asking for businesses in Staffordshire Moorlands to help simplify the tax system so she can tell the new Office of Tax Simplification the best ways to help small business. Karen said:
"The tax system has got far too complicated and we need to remove lots of the red tape holding our local businesses back. The Chancellor announced the OTS in July and its Chairman, Michael Jack, has asked MPs for ways to make taxes simpler and life easier for individuals and businesses.
"I said I'd be a strong clear voice for Staffordshire Moorlands in Westminster and this is a chance for all of you - particularly if you run a small businesses - to tell me about the taxes that make life difficult and how you'd like to change them. With your help I can show the Government how to make things better for business in the Moorlands and not just for large organisations based in big cities."
Karen is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Tax Advisor and spent nearly 20 years advising businesses large and small on tax before she was elected to Parliament. She watched with dismay as the tax laws expanded massively under the Labour government so there are over 10,000 pages in the UK's tax code - more than any other country.
Karen added:
"We need to give the OTS the information to advise the Chancellor. I've worked in tax for a long time so I understand how complicated allowances and reliefs have become but I need the examples that hurt you so we can fix them.
"So don't hold back, let me know your ideas by the end of December and we can help make a difference and cut some of Labour's red tape."
