Next week is UK Parliament Week, an annual festival taking place from 13 – 19 November. It is UK Parliament Week’s 7th year with a range of events and activities that encourage citizens to learn about and engage with the work of the UK Parliament.
As MP for Staffordshire Moorlands, Karen is pleased to be involved in UK Parliament Week and is delighted that a group of Staffordshire Moorlands constituents will be coming down by coach to Westminster to join her on a tour of Parliament and visit some areas which are not always open to the public, including the House of Commons Chamber.
Karen said:
"I have been organising tours of Parliament for Moorlands residents for some time now and I am pleased to say that they have always been a huge success. Parliament is such a historic and truly fascinating place and I am both honoured and humbled to be able to represent Staffordshire Moorlands constituents here."
Karen is pleased to show local residents the art and architecture and explain about the history of Parliament but she also talks about how Parliament works and her work in Parliament representing Staffordshire Moorlands. She explains the work of both Houses as well as many other interesting facts such as how when division is called, a bell rings around the estate and MPs have eight minutes to either go into the ‘aye’ or ‘no’ lobbies to vote; how Members entering the Chamber always bow to the Speaker’s Chair or how the petition bag hangs on the back of the Chair so MPs can put petitions in that they want to present to the House, just to mention a few.
Karen hosts regular coach trips to Westminster throughout the year. Please do contact her Leek office if you would like to be notified of future dates.
