Karen Bradley accompanied local farmers and NFU reps to meet Jim Paice MP, Shadow Minister for Farming, in Parliament on Wednesday 17 March to explain their problems with bovine TB. Jim sympathised with the farmers' plight and explained the practical plans the Conservatives have to deal with the disease.
So many of our local farmers are affected by Bovine TB at the moment with no idea of any plan for how to eradicate this disease that costs the farmer and the taxpayer so much in lost animals and money. Karen has met many people affected by this problem and wants to get their voices heard by those making policy in Westminster. Jim Paice explained the solid plans Conservative Party has for helping.Being a farmer himself, Jim sympathises with the problems they face and offered a clear way forward. But at the moment, there is no end in sight. The package of measures that Jim put forward was practical and realistic and will start the process of eradicating this disease if the Conservatives win the election."
Commenting after the meeting Jim Paice said:
"I am grateful to Karen for introducing me to her local farmers who described the problems they are facing with this dreadful disease. Hard-working farming families are suffering emotionally and financially and are crying out for action.
"Under Labour over 250,000 cattle have been slaughtered due to bovine TB at a cost of hundreds of millions of pounds. We can't go on like this. A package of measures, which tackles all sources of the disease, is urgently required and only the Conservatives will deliver it."
