It’s week 11 of my A year of Reasons to Visit the Moorlands and I am delighted to announce that this week’s Reason is the fantastic Peak Wildlife Park.
The park officially opened in 2015 on the site of the old Blackbrook Zoo and features a range of animals such as lemurs, penguins, meerkats, otters, deer and many more. Of great interest at the moment, of course, are the three polar bears who arrived recently from Orsa Predator Park in Sweden.
I was delighted to visit the Park myself recently and it was absolutely amazing to see the mother, Hope, and her two young cubs, Nanook and Noori here in the Moorlands. We have polar bears in the Moorlands!
They are absolutely stunning to look at and are really attracting the crowds. They are such beautiful creatures - it is hard to believe just how dangerous they are just looking at them.
The bears have an enclosure that spans 5 acres with ponds and rugged terrain which is similar to their previous enclosure in Orsa. The Park has worked closely with polar bear experts to make sure that they have the highest possible standards of welfare and it was so exciting to see the mum and her two cubs in their new home.
The Peak Wildlife Park is such a great day out. Apart from the polar bears of course, there are so many other animals to see. The Park also features interactive experiences where guests can engage with the animals, including walkthrough exhibits, keeper talks, and animal feeding sessions.
The Peak Wildlife Park is a really fascinating place and such a fun day out for all the family. I do hope that many of you will visit and support this fantastic Reason to Visit the Moorlands.
