This is week 2 of My Year of Reasons to Visit the Moorlands. Over the course of 52 weeks, each week, I want to focus on one of the many reasons that people enjoy the Moorlands and advertise that via social media to the wider world. The first Reason, last week, was Alton Towers, and this week, the second Reason is the amazing creativity there is in our area, specifically the work of two of our great local artists Robin Wight and David Hunt.
Robin Wight runs his FantasyWire business from his studio in Oakamoor. I have been lucky enough to visit the studio a few times and to see Robin’s amazing pieces of art displayed, including at Trentham Gardens.
Robin founded FantasyWire in 2010 and is best known for the fabulous stainless steel wire fairy and dandelion sculptures. Robin, and his team, work with wire and metal to create some amazing pieces of art.
Cheddleton based artist David Hunt works with oil paints and soft pastels and his fantastic paintings are inspired by the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands and Peak District landscapes. David has featured in many local exhibitions such as at the Nicholson Institute in Leek, the Foxlowe and the most recent being Artists at the Lake at Rudyard. His paintings capture the essence of the Moorlands and I love looking at them when away from home.
Both David and Robin are fantastic ‘Reasons’ to visit the Moorlands. For more information, please see my Facebook page all this week and please do share your great experiences and photos of Robin and David on my Year of Reasons Twitter @VisitMoorlands. Let’s do all we can to bring even more people to see all that we have to offer in this very special part of the UK.
