Karen Bradley, MP for Staffordshire Moorlands, has backed a campaign for it to stay lighter later. Karen pledged her support after meeting organisations who support the Lighter Later campaign. This aims to move the clocks forward by an hour throughout the year to maximise the availability of daylight hours.
Karen said "My canvassing in Staffordshire Moorlands supports the idea that most people want extra light in the evenings. It's very depressing to have such dark nights so early in the day - and we get no benefit in the morning anyway as it's already dark for the famers and everyone else who has get up early. We should get some benefit in the evening instead."
Lighter Later is supported by safety campaigners, tourism organisations, businesses, sporting bodies, environmentalists, public health experts and community charities.
Daniel Vockins, Lighter Later campaign manager said: "We would still put the clocks forward in spring and back in autumn, but we would have moved an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening, when more of us are awake to enjoy it.
"All the evidence shows an extra hour of light in the evenings is much more valuable than an hour in the early morning - and the opinion polls make it clear that the majority of people in the UK are in favour of the change."
Parliament will vote on December 3 on the Daylight Saving Bill.
