It’s now week 50 of my A Year of Reasons to Visit the Moorlands and this week, I am highlighting the very special Tittesworth Reservoir.
The Reservoir, originally built back in 1858 by the Staffordshire Potteries Waterworks Company, is in a beautiful setting with the Roaches in the background and there really is something for everyone.
It’s a really great place for walking with a choice of trails where you can walk all the way around the Reservoir or go on a shorter walk. As well as the stunning views, there is so much wildlife to see and the site is really popular with nature lovers and bird watchers.
I have been a great supporter of the many local people and organisations who have held charity walks here. Last year I featured the amazing Catherine Bennett who organised a walk for Breast Cancer Now and I have often joined John Bamford at the start of his Christian Aid sponsored walks.
I was also delighted to learn that local resident, Ed Daly, volunteers every Tuesday as a ranger with the Conservation Working Party. In the winter months, the volunteers did hedge laying and last summer, the site hosted a fun day to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the raising of the Dam head. It was a very successful event with many visitors.
There is an outdoor play area for the children, the Waterview restaurant for something to eat and drink and the Peak Pursuits Water Sports centre where there is a range of activities on offer including canoeing, kayaking and raft building just to mention some of them.
So do pop along to the Visitor Centre to find out the many things to do around the Reservoir. It’s a great day out and a really good Reason to Visit the Moorlands.
