My Reason this week is the fantastic We Love the Moorlands charity.
I am honoured to have been asked to be a trustee of the Community Foundation for Staffordshire’s Moorlands fund, We Love The Moorlands. We officially launched the fund in October 2021 with an event at Basford Hall.
We Love The Moorlands is a local fund that provides small grants to a wide range of projects based in the district of the Staffordshire Moorlands. It was lovely to hear from some of the beneficiaries at the launch event, such as Approach Dementia Support who were awarded a grant of £1,000 towards helping deliver carer support and advice sessions.
The fund considers applications from local groups in need twice a year. Companies and individuals are welcome to donate or fund-raise, and all money is invested through an endowment fund in line with charity commission guidelines. The interest and dividends earned on the invested money is then distributed by the We Love The Moorlands Fund as small grants across the district.
Just one example of a fundraising event was the Three Town Trail Challenge, that took place in 2022 and involved covering a total of 39.5 miles, the length of the route between the three towns of Leek, Biddulph and Cheadle.
People walked, jogged, ran and cycled covering the distance all in one go or over several weeks. It was a great opportunity to get sponsorship and raise money for this fantastic cause. There were also lots of competitions during the challenge with local businesses kindly donating prizes.
We Love the Moorlands is a great way to raise money in the Moorlands that is for the benefit of the Moorlands.
