Last week Rishi Sunak gave his first address to the nation as Prime Minister and appointed his new Cabinet, setting out his vision to place economic stability at the heart of his Government and to deliver on the mandate we secured in 2019. Please be assured that I will continue to lobby Ministers in the new Government and make sure they are aware of the issues that you write to me about.
Back home in the Moorlands, I was pleased to visit Alton Towers. After a catch up with the management team, it was good to visit the park. It was lovely to see it so busy and also to see how so many people had made a special effort to wear costumes for Scarefest.
As the days become shorter, we move towards important events such as Remembrance Sunday. As your Member of Parliament, I am always honoured to be invited to a number of Remembrance services in Staffordshire Moorlands to pay respects on behalf of local residents to those who died in the two World Wars and other conflicts. I was therefore delighted on Saturday to join the volunteers who were selling Poppies for the Royal British Legion at Sainsbury’s in Leek.
The Royal British Legion does such incredible work and all the donations provide support for members of the British Army, the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force, veterans and their families. The Poppy Appeal is their biggest fundraising event and I would like to thank all the many amazing volunteers who are out in the Moorlands selling poppies for this year’s Appeal. And finally, on the subject of volunteers, please do try to drop into my Community Volunteers Celebration event on Saturday 12th November which is taking place from 10.00 – 12.30 in the Churnet Room at Moorlands House in Leek.
