I am always pleased to be invited to visit local schools and recently had two lovely visits to St Bartholomew’s CE (VC) Primary School in Longnor and St Anne's C.E. (VC) Primary School in Brown Edge.
At St Bartholomew’s, I was given a tour of the school and then took part in a school assembly with a Questions & Answers session where I really enjoyed answering the children's thoughtful questions. I was also delighted to be asked to hand out the Queen's Platinum Jubilee books to the children - these books are a great keepsake of this very special Platinum Jubilee.
My visit to St Anne’s coincided with their Summer Fair and it was lovely to meet all the staff and children and to see everyone having so much fun with the circus performances and all the stalls.
We haven’t had these kind of events for such a long time and it was great to see people of all ages out and about enjoying the Fair.
This brings me onto an initiative that I hope will appeal to schoolchildren in the Moorlands.
As some of you know, I am hosting a Pensioners’ and Carers’ Advice in Leek on Saturday 16th July from 10 – 12 in the Churnet Room at Moorlands House. The aim of the event is to get together as many organisations as we can to offer advice to any pension age visitors but I would love for it to be inter-generational with grandchildren bringing along their grandparents.
Grandparents are also often the unofficial childcare providers to their families, so some exhibitors will be providing resources to support them with that. So please do come along to Moorlands House on 16th and see what help and advice is on offer in our area, everyone is welcome!
