As I mentioned on Churnet Sound Radio last week, it is so good to be home in the Moorlands attending events in person such as Club Day, Biddulph Churches Together Open Air Café, Leek Show and of course my Pensioners’ & Carers’ Advice Fair.
I have really missed these kind of events that had to be cancelled due to the pandemic but am really pleased that they are now taking place so that everyone can enjoy these very special occasions that do the Moorlands proud.
Another event that I am pleased to re-start is my Coach Trip to Parliament. I have organised many of these coach trips in the past and they have all been really successful. Sadly, we haven't been able to do them recently but I am pleased to finally be able to announce the next date which is Friday 9th September.
The trip is open to residents of Staffordshire Moorlands and offers an opportunity to join me on a tour of Parliament and visit some areas which are not normally open to the public, including – I hope – the House of Commons Chamber and Committee Rooms. Please contact my Leek office on 01538 382421 for more details.
Every year MPs also welcome hundreds of school students to Parliament through the Parliamentary Education Service. The usual format is a walking tour of the Palace of Westminster with workshops in the Education Centre followed by a short session with your MP.
I always try to meet school visitors from Staffordshire Moorlands to talk about the politics and history of Westminster, the work of an MP and about local issues. School parties who have visited have found it a fascinating and useful experience.
There is some financial support available for trips from the Parliamentary Education Service. Please see: https://learning.parliament.uk/en/ for more details.
