The theme of last week’s Mental Health Awareness Week was “kindness” and here in the Moorlands, I have been struck by the many, extraordinary acts of kindness that local residents have been telling me about.
There are so many people helping and caring for others and giving up their time to make a difference to their friends, families, neighbours and anyone isolating or shielding during these difficult times.
We are lucky to have these people in our community. I thank each and every one of our fantastic carers and keyworkers who are all working so hard during these challenging times. You are all heroes but I would also like to thank the many volunteers who may be delivering food parcels or prescriptions, helping with shopping or phoning the lonely for a chat just to mention a few examples.
We have so many Hidden Heroes, continuing to look after us as keyworkers or volunteers, continuing quietly, week after week, helping those in need. I would like to dedicate my column this week to the Hidden Heroes in Staffordshire Moorlands and say a huge thank you for all you are doing. We are all so grateful to you for your kindness to others. Your acts of kindness, however small, are really appreciated and you are making a difference to people’s lives.
I am keen to hear from local people who have received such acts of kindness and if there is anyone that you feel deserves a special mention as a Hidden Hero, please do email me with your story on [email protected] with their name and address.
Kindness has to be one of the few positive things to come out of this terrible pandemic and I hope that we will all continue with this as we move on from this difficult situation.
