I doubt I was alone in spending Sunday evening gripped by the final of Euro 22 at Wembley where we all cheered on our Lionessess. It was a great tournament and an unbelievably tense final. I have been a huge supporter of the women’s game for many years. I remember attending the first Women’s FA Cup Final held at Wembley and have since watched many games, including being honoured to represent the Government at the last Women’s Euros held in the Netherlands, where England were unfortunately beaten by the hosts in the semi-final in Twente.
It is fantastic to see how the game has developed and to watch England beat Germany at a capacity Wembley was utterly wonderful. Congratulations to the amazing Lionesses.
Last weekend I was also delighted to attend the Leek Show which sadly wasn’t able to take place in 2020 and 2021.
The Show has always been one of the highlights of my year. I remember the last one in 2019 where despite the terrible rain, we all had such a fun time. This year, we had a change of venue to Dunwood Fields and definitely better weather but most of all, it was good to see so many people out and about at the Show, visiting the exhibits, the livestock and the animals and enjoying this very special day. Our local farmers and businesses did an amazing job showing everyone just how much we have to offer here in the Moorlands and I know that we were all pleased to be back at this important event that we have all missed.
Well done to all the organisers and thank you to all the sponsors and to everyone who took part. As always, it was a great show and a real showcase for the Moorlands.
