This week’s Reason in my Year of Reasons to Visit the Moorlands initiative is the brilliant Sporting Communities organisation, that I have worked with on a great many projects over the years. Working across North Staffordshire, the team use sport as a tool to engage and reach young individuals.
Currently, the team are working on the MYVoice project, which provides incredible services for young people, giving them a voice and creating links with youth organisations, inspiring them to take social action and have a say in their community and their future.
The project focuses on youth development throughout the Staffordshire Moorlands by providing programmes, workshops and many different activities to help young people contribute to positive change.
Their annual Youth Awards event is a celebration of the fantastic achievements of many of our young people and the ceremony is supported by local businesses and organisations.
If you are a young person aged 11 – 17, live or go to school/college in the Moorlands and would like to be involved in MYVoice, please email
The success of MYVoice across the Moorlands has not gone unnoticed and I am delighted that their work has been recognised with a grant from the National Community Lottery Fund which will allow them to focus on specific areas including Leek and Endon.
Excitingly, Sporting Communities will also be hosting the UK’s first Youth Innovation Conference later this month at the University Academy 92. More information can be found here: https://www.sportingcommunitiescic.org/conference/
I am so proud to be sharing the work of Sporting Communities as this week’s Reason. They are a brilliant organisation with a really dedicated team who deserve their recognition of having such a positive influence on young people and the community.
