I am a great supporter of local sports and here in the Moorlands we are lucky to have many fantastic organisations. We have rugby, cricket, golf, hockey and so many other sports with clubs and activities right across the constituency. I will be writing about some of these in future weeks but, as my week 36’s Reason to Visit the Moorlands, I would like to highlight the amazing Leek Town FC, the Blues.
My family and I always have fun watching the men’s senior team, both in league games and the cup, even when the results don’t go our way. I have attended matches, as often as I can, for many years and there is always such a great atmosphere in the crowd.
The Club, with the support of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and the Football Foundation, was awarded funding for upgrades to facilities including the new all-weather 3G pitch a few years ago.
While the new pitch was being laid, Leek Town played in Buxton. Support was always strong but it was brilliant to be back at Harrison Park, for the first match on the new pitch in 2021. It was so exciting to be with Chairman Jon Eeles, players, management and supporters on this special occasion. I seem to remember it was a good result too!
Leek Town is a great community club, with junior teams, a development squad and the brilliant Leek Town Ladies.
I have mentioned Leek Town FC in debates in Parliament and am a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Football. I will be posting about The Blues all week on my X/twitter @VisitMoorlands account and Instagram @VisitTheMoorlands so please do share your photos of the Club.
