Karen led the Leek Club Day procession with Cllr Sybil Ralphs and Rev Carl Peters of St Matthew’s Meerbrook and other civic dignitaries on Saturday. Karen said: “Club Day is one of the highlights of the year in Leek and it’s always a proud moment to set off leading the parade. It’s a great reminder of the traditions of the town and of how much the churches to do bring people together. It was good to see so many people come out on the hottest day of the year to watch the church groups with their beautiful banners go by.” The theme this year was the Water of Life and Rev Peters led the crowds in the market place in a short service thanking God for his gifts of water and the Holy Spirit. The children waved blue streamers for water and red for the Holy Spirit and each church in the parade had its own colour – St Matthew’s had white flowers which Karen joined them in wearing. Karen added: “Given the heat, the Water of Life theme was inspired and we were grateful for the physical relief, on this spiritual occasion, provided by the symbolic cups of water we had been given!” Karen and Cllr Ralphs (left) led the parade followed by (l-r) Lady Mayoress of Leek Mrs Pat Fisher and Mayor Cllr John Fisher, Rev Fr Carl Peters and Cllr Jim Davis, Chairman of Staffordfshire Moorlands District Council and Mrs Sue Davis.
