Karen visited the LafargeHolcim cement plant in Cauldon on Friday including a visit to the control room with plant manager Martin Baines (pictured). Karen said:
"Cauldon is an important employer locally so I was pleased to come back and visit and learn more about the business here. Thanks to Martin for explaining how things work."
Karen and the Aggregate Industries team from Lafarge discussed the industry, which employs 80,000 people across the country and Cauldon's role in it, including the environmental impacts and its place in the Emmissions Trading Scheme. Karen added:
"It was good to hear about the work they are doing in Cauldon and the company's commitment to the Moorlands. I will do all I can to make sure that we can keep producing cement at the plant in as energy efficient way as possible - it is important for our local economy and influences so many other sectors."
